With the numerous brewery taprooms and fabulous range of beers Bavaria is known as the home of breweries. The state’s famous beer gardens serve such world renowned favourites as "Weisswurst“ (veal sausages), barbecued pork hocks or "Obatzda“ (a cheese spread made of Camembert, butter, onions and paprika).
As the beer garden season draws to a close so the magic of Christmas markets once more fills the air in Bavaria’s towns and villages with the aroma of Lebkuchen and mulled wine.
Traditional fare is served all year round in the numerous Alpine chalets that provide well-earned respite for walkers in the summer and skiers in the winter: locally produced sausages, cheeses, milk and sometimes even a homemade schnapps provide welcome sustenance. No trip to the mountains would be complete without the opportunity to taste locally made Alpine cheese, Allgäu “Kässpatzen” (cheese noodles) or “Leberkäs”.
