Ottobeuren
The Kneipp spa resort of Ottobeuren lies in the western Günz valley. The town’s history dates back to two important periods, firstly to 764 when Benedictine monks chose to establish their order here and secondly 1821 when Father Sebastian Kneipp was born in the hamlet of Stephansried that belongs to the parish of Ottobeuren. The18th century abbey is the largest and best preserved religious complex in the whole of Germany. Both the "Jakobsweg" traiol and the "Crescentia" pilgrimage trail run straight through Ottobeuren. Whilst at the abbey be sure to pay a visit to the library, the “Kaisersaal” and the museum that houses a millennium of art and culture documenting the cultural history of Swabia and of the Benedictines.
